The Bloc
SNG GRP spearheaded the cultural transformation of downtown LA's most ambitious mixed-use redevelopment, turning a fortress-like 1970s shopping mall into an open-air urban destination. Our anthropological study of the emerging DTLA audience informed every aspect of the $180 million renovation—from architectural design and environmental concepts to tenant curation and activation programming. We developed the comprehensive wayfinding system that seamlessly connects visitors to the first-ever direct Metro portal linking a private development to LA's subway network. Beyond infrastructure, we crafted a dynamic mural art program and collaborated on innovative retail gallery concepts that celebrate local culture while attracting premier brands. The result is a full city block that pulses with authentic LA energy, proving that strategic placemaking can breathe new life into aging urban infrastructure while honoring the diverse communities that define downtown's creative renaissance.
